Open Question: Help with RAM installation please?

Hi All, Have just purchased some OCR DDR2 Ram for my new mobo (MSI P43). For initial start-up i only used 1 of my 4GB sticks and it's all worked fine. Have since input all 4gb's in but system only recognizing 1Gb. Reduced it down to a pair but still the same info appearing. Any ideas. thanks in advance. more

I have 2 sticks of RAM inserted inside my computer since my computer has 1GB total, they are 2x 512MB, correct? There is no additional spaces for more RAM, can i take those out and put in 2x 1GB, since 2GB is the max my PC can expand to. Open Question: The Sims 3 system requirements?

As a fan of the sims, naturally i want to get the sims 3 game when it comes out in june. There is just one thing holding me back, my system specs. They are: Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHz processor 250GB SATA 1GB DDR II Windows Vista (with SP1) 32-bit OS Nvidia GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS Video RAM: 312MB 3D acceleration Pixel Shader 3.0 Direct X 10 I have trouble running the later sims 2 EPs, but unlike those, the system requirements lab site passes my system on all the min specs for the sims 3, not top marks but over the minimum. Future sims 3 EPs will most likely strain my system as more EPs are released or not even work at all. My PSU has a max wattage of 300W so a new video card means a new PSU and as you can see i need slightly more RAM. Would it be cheaper to just buy a new unit? than spend money on new hardware and paying for them to be installed as i won't touch my computer myself. more

Resolved Question: Linux Netbooks: possible to install XP, and install more RAM?

Aight so I'm thinking of buying a netbook like the Aspire One or the Asus EeePC, but all the sub £200 ones only ship with Linux, which is a pain, because any netbook running on a via, intel or celeron chip should be able to run Windows XP. I have a (fully legit!) CD with Windows XP SP2 on it, so is it possible to de-install Linux and install Windows instead? Because these babies don't come with CD drives, so I'm going to have to find an external one, and then the question is do I have to download the linux driver for this external drive? FINALLY, if I manage to install XP, I heard that Microsoft does not sell licenses for netbooks with more than 1GB of RAM. Is this just a licensing thing, or have they crippled XP in such a way that I can't install an extra 1GB on my netbook at all? more

Resolved Question: Components needed for upgrading an old PC?

Ive got my hands on an old PC from a friend, its a "Packard Bell iMedia" or something along them lines, its running Windows XP home edition on a feeble 60gb hard drive and some relic of a graphics card. Ive upgraded the RAM from 1gb to 2gb and in doing this realised it was only running DDR memory. Am i right in saying the newest RAM is currently DDR3? Im trying to comprise a bit of a shopping list of components. I need a graphics card capable of running the likes of World of Warcraft and Crysis. And enough RAM to run AutoCAD 2009. 4GB i think is the recommended spec. Obviously ill be upgrading the hard drive. Hopefully to about 750gb. I dont have any installation disks for XP or vista although i have my laptop tthat'srunning vista and that has all the vista files on that hard drive. Do hard drives come with an OS pre loaded or am i best buying a copy of vista? Anybody can give me a link to a PC with the specs ive listed? :) Also a friend mentioned that if i buy a new motherboard i might need to buy a new case because it wont fit. Is this the case? Sorry its a bit wordy but thanks for any help available :)1. Buying a new PC is not always cheaper and alot less fun. 2. Ill be upgrading the whole lot. So a chip only capable of windows xp 32 bit is irrelevant as im going to be replacing it. Ill be using the full AutoCAD system viewing 3D models of entire villages. I'm thinking of purchasing a mid range graphics card. I have a acer aspire T650 Pentium D 820, 2.8 GHz processor with 1GB of RAM running on Vista. I'm sure the graphics card is integrated (Nvidia GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS). I was thinking of getting a maybe GeForce 9600 GT I was told i need to know the PSU wattage before selecting a card, i ran a program and found the following information: Voltage CPU: 1.19V DIMM: 1.20V +3.3V Voltage: 3.31V +5V Voltage: 5.03V +12V Voltage: 11.65V I'm not very knowledgeable about PC's or how to calculate my wattage. I know i need more RAM to run the games i want, with more RAM a new graphics card (around the £100-£130 range) and maybe a new power supply for a new card, would it be cheaper to just get a new base unit? Hello yahoo computer boffins. I was hoping to pick your collective technical brains on some advice regarding a ram upgrade for a hp pavillion dv600 laptop. I currently have 2X 512MB of ram...1 in each module totaling 1GB of RAM installed at the moment... my CURRENT part number of type of ram type is M470T6554EZ3-CE6 ... it is DIMM.. my motherboard is a quanta 30B7 65.2C . I was hoping to upgrade to 2 GB of RAM but i dont know what ram is compatible? Also i researched some ram online and of some which seemed compatible 1 ram was 64meg and 1 was 128 meg but both were otherwise identical and said to be compatible with my computer on this website...........So what is the difference/significance between 64 and 128 meg on the different packages of two 1GB memory modules i was looking at?.........When i buy Two 1 GB memory modules to replace the two 512mb memory modules i currently have to upgrade my RAM which do i need 64 or 128 meg? I appreciate my question is confusing but i want to buy the correct memory RAM u see and i had to explain myself sufficiently, any help is much appreciated, thanks guys, hope you can help. more

Open Question: Computer only recognises 1GB instead of 2GB RAM?

I have just tried installing two sticks of 1GB RAM each but as I start the computer, it only recognises 1GB. I tried installing just the 1 stick and it then only recognises 512MB instead of the full 1GB. The sticks of RAM are labelled as 1GB, so is there something I need to do (e.g. adjust BIOS settings) or is it just a case of getting an exchange from the seller? more

Hello there, I'm new to Yahoo Answers, and this is my first time on this. Well, I have a Hp Pavillion a1507.uk Model computer, which to be fair has pretty low system components. Such as something like 256mb ram, and Intel Celeron D processor. So I went out and bought myself 2 x 1GB RAM modules from a shop nearby at around £40 each. I inserted both 1GB modules to the computer only to find out that my computer only works with 1GB RAM in at a time which is a bit strange considereing they are the same and my computer can take upto 2GB RAM. So if anyone knows anything about that it would be great. Also a few days ago I upgraded my Processor from Intel Celeron D to Intel Pentium 4. Which in my opinion has made a noticeable difference but nothing too special. Anyone have any ideas how to install 2GB RAM and maybe any other things I could do to make this computer better? I'm not looking for an amazing machine but something that runs reasonably fast and can run medium graphics games, such as Call of Duty 4. If anyone could get back to me it would be great. I had 2 x 512mb RAMs with Asus K8V-MX motherboard. I put in 2 x 1gb RAMs but they were the wrong size. I turned it on but obviously i didn't know they weren't plugged in properly. i turned it on and now it doesn't work. hi i bought a ram stick it sais compattible with my computer its ddr same as the one already in their. when i put the new one in their the computer will turn on for like 5 secs make some beeping noises and the fan will start up then it will all go off fora bout 2 seconds then it happens again repeatedly. any ideas how to fix this and what its doing the ram card is a ddr 1gb pc-3200 the stick i have in is a 248/56 ddr pc2700.my new card sais compatible with 2700 2200 and 3200 though so i duno whats rong.i also dont like it when people make me to be a complete idiot.. ive tryed the stick in and out the new 1 buy itself the old 1 by istelf both together only the old will work by itself. so its nothing to do with runnin them at different speeds. the monitor doesnt start up neither does the computer so how can i check properties with the ram card in.. atleast read the question ffs.before you start calling me an idiot a down syndrome jed or jek watever ur name is. i did my own research and its all compatible and fine dont come on here calling me and idiot you mug.thanks ill guess ill have to try to swap for another although they told me that would work on my comp. people just lie to sell things these days... more

Right so I just got a 1GB iPod Shuffle. Its GREEN! :O Anyway, I've just downloaded iTunes 8.1.1 whatever that is but it's the newest one. I used to have iTunes on my computer and when it had finished downloading all the song where on the new one. Trouble is I don't like any of those songs because it was my sister iTunes. Voting Question: How do i get all my ram to read?

I have 3gb of ram in my motherboard as it takes 4gb over 4 slots but the pc is only showing up as reading 1gb. I have flashed the bios and restarted the pc without any luck. When i look at the system information in system tools it is showing up as 3,072.00mb which is over 3gb i believe. If this helps the total virtual memory is showing up as 2gb, available vitrual memory showing up as 1.96gb and page file space as 2.40gb. I have a Asus M2N-MX motherboard if this helps more

Hi guys I would like to upgrade my current PC AMD 3200+ 2x 512mb RAM (making 1GB) I do not use my PC whatsoever for gaming or video editing. My sole priorities are: 1. Internet browsing 2. Basic programs like Word, excel etc 3. Streaming videos (such as youtube or webcam conversations) i just want to be able to have lots of internet pages open, burn dvds, download music etc at the same time, without the PC starting to stutter and become sluggish. I currently have an LG Prada Mobile phone. It has 1gb memory, touch interface, 2 megapixel camera, mp3 player, all the usual stuff. I want something that looks flash, thats why i chose the prada. Ive had it over a year now and i think this christmas i will upgrade to a newer phone. It has to be a touch phone with camera and all that, and cant be really over £100 ( i usually get them off ebay as they're cheaper). So far ive seen the Lg renoir, Samsung P520 armani, Samsung Omnia. I would also prefer it to be all in one piece, so no swivel, sliding, flip phones. I have a desktop PC with 1gb of RAM at the moment (512mb + 512mb) I like to stream lots of videos on youtube etc, as well as encode DVDs, and I find it gets quite sluggish at times with only 1gb. How much difference would extra RAM make? And should I upgrade to 1024+512 (1536mb) or to 1024+1024 (2gb) ? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: My Computer Turned Itself Off, And Won't Turn Back On, Is This The PSU?

I was playing Fallout 3 on my PC, which I do regularly, I know it is a games PC, but it has no cooling. The Specs are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 2x 1GB Kingston RAM 200GB HDD nVidea 8600GT 512MB DDR2 Graphics Card Im quite sure the PSU is 500W, or it could be 400W, Im really not sure, but it has been working fine for over a year like this, I got it the christmas before last off my mum and dad, my dad being the one that knows about computers took me, and I picked the parts I wanted, after changing around Graphics Cards 3 times, getting an ASUS SLI motherboard, Ive been playing all of the top games since Ive had this computer, including Crysis, GTAIV, Fallout, STALKER Clear Sky, Vegas 2, and all of the others, Ive never worried about looking on the back of game cases. While I was playing fallout, my computer suddenly turned off, and I thought this was a bit weird, I instinctively felt the top left of the case, where my PSU rests, and I noticed it was quite hot, I unplugged everything after trying to turn it on for 10 minutes, and it was still hot, I smelt the back of the PC and it had quite a metallic burnt smell if that make sence? Im 13, so I dont have a job and getting computer parts is much easier said than done, and I dont have the 50 pounds to get a new PSU, nevermind the twin 8800GT SLI, fixing my Armani Watch and all of the rest of the things that I was going to buy/do. If you can help at all, please post an answer. Also, I have tried removing a stick of RAM and trying again, to both of the RAM sticks, my dad has exactly the same computer with a 256MB DDR3 version of my Graphics Card. And yes, I have tried all of the obvious things (waiting a day), Any information is appreciated.Did some more checking, i opened it up again, plugged it in, and the green motherboard light is on. When i press the power button the PSU seems to make a strange humming power sound, no fans spinning, nothing. I have 3 spare pcs that are mine, and i found that one has a 12V 350w psu in it, but im not too happy with replacing as it would be long, and id onlu be about 50w over the recommended power supply for my graphics card. Do you advise swap them? Or just leave it be?
